What Your Horse Should Know Before Hitting the Trail

0601_02

The June No Worries Club digital download is all about preparing your horse to head out on the trail. Clinton works with four club members and Method Ambassador Rick Badousek to outline the bare minimum groundwork exercises he expects a horse and rider to know before leaving the safety of the arena.

“If you want your horse to be a safe, willing partner on the trail, you have to train him to be one. Just because a horse is great in the arena it doesn’t mean that he’s going to be just as steady on the trail. Horses dramatically change when you take them out of the comfort and familiarity of the arena,” Clinton says. “It should go without saying that before you take your horse on the trail, he should have a solid foundation of training in a controlled environment like an arena first.”
